Living an eco-friendly lifestyle is much easier if you know and understand words that are commonly used within this lifestyle. Over the past few weeks, Whole Earth Packaging has discussed environmentally friendly terms beginning with the letters A through E. Please join us this week, as we discuss eco-friendly terms beginning with F through H.

Flex-Fuel – A fuel, which is typically made up of a mix of gasoline and ethanol.

Fossil Fuels – A combustible organic material, made from the remains of a former life, such as plants and animals. Some common fossil fuels include oil, coal, and natural gas.

Fuel Cell – An electrochemical process, which converts energy into electrical power.

Fuel Efficiency – A machine, such as a vehicle, which produces power at a rate that is better than the amount of fuel consumed.

Geothermal Energy – Heat that is produced from the Earth.

Global Warming – An increase the in the average temperature of the Earth, which is due to the burning of fossil fuels.

Graywater – Wastewater that is left over from household activities, such as laundry, dishwashing, and bathing, and can be recycled for other uses.

Green – An adjective used to describe environmentally friendly behaviors.

Greenhouse Effect – Greenhouse gases trap heat inside the atmosphere, and warm the surface of the Earth.

Greenhouses Gases – Gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, which contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Hybrid – Hybrid-Electric vehicles (HEVs), which combine the benefits of gasoline engines with electric motors to improve fuel economy, power, etc.

Hydroelectric Energy – Electric energy produced by running water.
