The holiday season is upon us! Before you know it, you’ll be invited to parties and other holiday soirees. Believe it or not, it’s possible to keep yourself and the earth healthy this holiday season. If you’re hosting the party, be sure to use our biodegradable food service products (we’ve even got eco-friendly party supplies!). If you’re just attending the party, consider bringing some of your own eco-friendly products to help make the host’s life a little easier. It’s also easy for you to keep yourself on the healthy side—after all, your body and the earth are both extremely important!

Healthy Earth/Healthy Body Holiday Tips

  • Drink low-calorie beverages. If you want to indulge, stick to light beer.
  • Instead of fried appetizers, try having some fruit, veggies, nuts, or low-fat cheese.
  • Don’t give up on bread! Just choose better options. Whole wheat bread or pita bread are both excellent choices.
  • Select side dishes that don’t need toppings or gravy—these just add empty calories!
  • Try to minimize the amount of sugar you take in. Don’t skip the cookies—just don’t eat more than a few.
  • Recycle all empty drink containers from the party.
  • Try to use reusable dishes whenever possible. If you can’t, choose eco-friendly cutlery and plates.

Most of all… Have a great holiday season!

It’s easy to be carried away in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, but it’s important to stick to eco-friendly practices during the holidays. Here are some of the ways you can stay green this holiday season.

Save a tree, and don’t buy wrapping paper this year. You can use many things as a substitute for wrapping paper, such as holiday themed posters, scarves, newspapers, wallpaper scraps, fabric scraps, decorative gift bags. If you’re set of using traditional wrapping paper, look for wrapping paper made from recycled paper. Make sure all recyclable items, including wrapping paper, are recycled!
After wrapping them, decorate your holiday gifts using items you find around the house such as, left over ribbons, ornaments, fabric, string, buttons, etc.
Artificial trees can be used every year, but if you want a real tree buy one from a tree farm.
Give friends and family eco-friendly gifts such as season tickets to their favorite sports team, seeds for a garden, a potted flower or plant, or you can even make a gift!
Decorate your house with LED lights, which use less energy than other holiday lighting options.
If you’re having a holiday party, use environmentally friendly party supplies. At Whole Earth Packaging, you’ll find a wide variety of eco-friendly party supplies such as, Chinet plates and bowls, corn cutlery and other eco-friendly dinnerware.

There are many more things you can do to stay eco-friendly over the holidays. What are some of the ways you stay green during the holiday season?

Today we honor our veterans. We’d like to send a sincere “thank you” out to those that served our country. And, while we’re at it, we’d like to point out that the military is starting to join the eco-friendly movement, too. Every branch of the military is focusing on some type of energy efficiency—as well as moving toward renewable energy. Just in 2010, the government budgeted $2.7 billion to improve energy efficiency in the military.

We got word that in a recent press conference, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy noted that “by 2020, 50 percent of the Navy’s total energy consumption will come from alternative sources.” He also noted that “by 2015, the Navy will reduce petroleum use in vehicles by 50 percent.” Let’s put this in perspective. Back in 1999, the USS Constellation burned 264 gallons of diesel PER SECOND. For that reason, the Navy uses nuclear-powered aircraft carriers now.

Another report says that the Army has reduced its water usage by 31 percent and its energy use by 10.4 percent since 2004. The Air Force recently finished a 140-acre solar site near Las Vegas. They’ve also been testing aircrafts to use a blend of synthetic fuels. In fact, the Marines are even going green! They plan to cut their energy consumption in half by 2025.

We salute our veterans, and we salute the military for keeping an eye on the environment!

The holiday season will be here before you know it. (Hey, Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away!) That means it’s time to start thinking about the gifts you’ll be giving to your friends, family, and loved ones. But what if you have to ship those holiday gifts? Isn’t that a hassle? There’s the boxes, the tape, the bubble wrap… It’s so annoying. Can you imagine how Mother Nature feels? So much gets wasted in wrapping and shipping each holiday season. So how can you avoid all the hassle and environmental stress?

If possible, do your shopping online. If you have to ship the gifts out of town, this is probably your best option. Many online retailers offer gift wrapping services. It’s so simple, really.
But if you choose to ship for yourself, there are still ways that you can keep the environment in mind. Here at Whole Earth Packaging, we have environmentally friendly tapes and dispensers. Choose from duct tape, masking tape, or sealing tape. Whatever you need to package that box, you can find it here. And it won’t be at the expense of Mother Nature.
When all else fails… order gift cards! They don’t require packaging, and the recipient can get whatever he or she wants. It’s a win-win situation.

Enjoy the kickoff of the holiday season from all of us here at Whole Earth Packaging!
