The 2012 Olympic Games, which is taking place in London, will start on
July 27. London
is determined to make the 2012 Olympics as environmentally friendly as
possible, and as far as we can tell they’re doing a pretty good job. In fact,
the Olympic Delivery Authority, who is responsible for building to Olympic
Park, has gone out of their way to make sure this years Olympic Park will be
the most eco-friendly yet!
Here are eco-friendly facts about the 2012 London Olympics:
- Heating,
electricity, cooling, and hot water will be provided by energy-efficient
technology. This includes a biomass boiler, which will burn recycled
woodchips to generate power!
- 90% of
materials that were used during the construction of the Olympic Park will
be reused or recycled.
- Spectators
are being urged to walk, ride a bicycle or use a form of public
transportation to get to the Olympic Games.
- A wind
turbine has been added to the park, and is able to make enough energy for
1,000 homes!
- This
year’s Olympic stadium is the lightest Olympic stadium that has ever been
built.
- The
Olympic flame will even be carbon free.
Through the use of eco-friendly, sustainable and biodegradable products
and materials, the 2012 London Olympic Games has reduced its carbon footprint
by approximately 50%! This is a great achievement for London and the Olympic Games. Are you
