There’s nothing wrong with getting a little dirt under your fingernails, especially if it’s for an earth friendly cause, such as Plant a Flower Day! This environmentally friendly day is celebrated every March 12th. Whether indoors or outdoors, celebrate Plant a Flower Day and start of the spring season the right way by planting your favorite flower. Here are some of the ways flowers are beneficial to our environment.

  • Flowers attract insects and birds, who pollinate the plant, keep predators away from the flowers by keeping the ecosystem healthy, and use flowers to further their own growth.
  • Flowers produce seeds, which are pollinated when they are transported by birds and insects, or when the seeds are carried with the wind.
  • The seeds that are dropped by flowers help to produce plants and food for people to eat.
  • Without flowers, bees wouldn't have the pollen that they use to make honey, and without honey what would we put in or tea?!
  • Flowers provide us with oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis also helps rid the air of pollution because plants take in carbon dioxide.
